Uppsala Train Station |
This morning we woke up bright and early (around 4 a.m.) to catch the train from Gothenburg to Stockholm, then Stockholm to Uppsala. It was a long day on the train, but I worked on accomplishing homework, watching the beautiful scenery, and sleeping for a bit on the train. It is always amazing to see the difference in the scenery as we are traveling through Sweden. The train took about 4 hours to Stockholm and then another 40 minutes to Uppsala. Uppsala is our last stop before making it to our final destination of Umeå! I cannot believe how fast the week has gone by. I feel like it was only yesterday we were traveling around Stockholm!
Uppsala Slott |
After arriving in Uppsala, we got our hostel room, and then started walking around the city. The city reminds me of a college town with many students riding bikes, taking the train, or taking the bus. While walking around we walked to Uppsala Universitet (Uppsala University) and looked at the beautiful scenery of the University. Then we traveled to a pink castle called Uppsala Slott. The architecture of the building was absolutely beautiful! While exploring the castle, there was snow on the ground! I could not believe that it is only the first week in November and there is snow on the ground in Uppsala! Looks like I am going to need some warmer clothes on this journey!
I also learned a few days ago that I will be teaching in grades 4 through 6. The school I will be teaching at is Linblommans skola (Storgården) (http://www.umea.se/linblommansskola.4.13c1b69101a982ca2a800068756.html). I am very excited to meet the children I will be teaching. We start teaching November 14th, 2011 in the classroom. Next week I get to go to school and learn about the Swedish education system! I am very interested in learning the differences in the schools!
Well, it is about 9:40 p.m. in Uppsala (3:40 p.m. in the Midwest) and I need to get some sleep. Lots of sight seeing tomorrow! I’m excited to explore Uppsala to see what else it has in store for us!
