Day 13 and 14 – Umeå

Walking around campus at 10:30 in the morning! Look at where
the sun is located in the sky. That is about as high as it will get
for the day... Maybe just a little bit higher!

I find it hard trying to work on my blog every day because I feel like the days here are so short! We did not do much this weekend, we just got accustomed to being around Umeå, getting our rest in, and working on our homework for our supervisors back in the United States. So pretty much Saturday was spent working on homework.

Amanda, Erika, and I decided that we did not want to spend all day in our rooms on Sunday so we made an effort to walk to downtown Umeå. It was an extremely cold walk, but luckily I am used to walking in the cold with the walks across campus at Whitewater! But apparently we have brought some of the Wisconsin weather with us because it has yet to snow and last year at this time it had already snowed in the middle of October and there has been no sign of snow yet!

While walking around Umeå today our hunt was to find a tourist shop to bring back goodies and to find the heart of Umeå. Needless to say, we succeed on finding the heart of Umeå and the tourists shop we struck out on. Umeå Rådhus. Lies in the middle of Umeå. Behind it (on the north side) lies Rådhustorget (City Hall Square), the heart of Umeå's central shopping district. Literally there is a “heart-shaped” structure that looks like a lego piece. When we went to visit it, they must be doing some construction around the heart because it was blocked off. But it was a very interesting sight to see.

Advise: Don’t go shopping on the Sundays. They take Sunday’s as a day of rest so you hardly see shops open on Sundays. There are a few shops that are open but not many!

Well tonight is going to be an early night! I get to meet my students tomorrow and I am really excited about what is going to happen in the next few days! Hope everyone is loving the blog and the pictures!
